On Saturdays there is only the usual walk-in tour at 14:00. For participation you can only register on Saturday at the box office in the abbey shop. The maximum number of participants is then 10 people.
Costs for the tour are € 5.00 per person to be paid in the store. For children up to 13 years we charge € 4.00 for the tour, including the dipping of a candle.
Marvel at the architecture of Egmond Abbey, the monumental abbey church with relics of Saint Adelbert and the tomb of Count Floris of Egmont. Light a candle at the icon of the Mother of God Mary, enjoy the beautiful eco, butterfly, herb and vegetable garden, the vegetable greenhouse and the historic abbey grounds from the Middle Ages with the picturesque Reformed church. Hidden glimpses that you normally did not know existed, such as the inner harbor of Egmond on the canal dug by the monks that once opened up the interior of the province.
After an exciting tour in the abbey grounds of the Benedictine monks, with surprising anecdotes, you will end up in the small museum where all kinds of curiosities can be admired from excavations from ancient tumultuous times. When studying the model of the Abbey grounds, you can imagine what it must have looked like here from the Middle Ages to the 16th century.
In the traditional candle making you can get acquainted with the traditional way of making candles and artistic painting with religious and profane images, suitable for church use but also atmospheric in your own living room.
In the abbey shop you can acquire a beautiful souvenir, a religious creation or a good book from our specialized bookstore. You can end this unforgettable total experience of the Sint Adelbert abbey in our tastefully decorated tea & coffee shop the Benedictushof, where changing exhibitions can be admired. On our quiet terrace you can enjoy the sun and the peaceful tranquility that our abbey has to offer, because silence is the core business of the monks. That is why the private quarters of the monks are not visited during the tour. At the front of the shop you will find the terrace with a bit more cozy bustle where you have a nice view of the characteristic monumental farm, over the farmlands and the orchard with many different historical apple varieties. A true place of meeting for hikers, tour cyclists, day trippers and pilgrims.
Apart from the guided tour, your visit to the abbey can easily be combined with a walk on the marked monks’ path, which starts at the abbey and leads through the farmlands and dunes of the Egmonden. Near the abbey you will also find the Liobak monastery where you can visit the exhibition of the creative and artistic nuns; on the way there you can visit the Adelbertusakker where there is the old well to which healing powers are attributed, said to be good for the blind and visually impaired.
